The Alps Experience - Across the Alps on a mountainbike

A documentary by Roland Schymik produced by Sebastian Runschke

A group of four mountainbikers is filmed during a one-week-trip across the Alps. We experience one of the last adventures of our time. The group starts in Mittenwald in Bavaria, passes through Austria and drives deep into the north of Italy. The old forts and bunkers from the first world war give the sporty power and the unique landscape a horrible scenery. The documentary gives us an insight into the historical backgrounds of the great fortresses.
The group travels on footpaths, smugglerpaths and military roads of the two world wars more than 600 km with an altitude difference of 20 000 m (66 000 ft). The destination is Lake Garda, where the Alps end and the lowlands of Italy begin.

Today we are able to cross the Alps in a few hours by car and cable railways bring the tourists up the mountains. But there are a different parts of the Alps. There are some parts where you are able to feel the great silence and the fascination of nature inside of you.
